It seems Bollywood is turning to Indian epics to draw inspiration for the films. Mani Ratnams’ “Raavan” is touted to be a modern take on the Ramayana. The film has been in news for its unconventional storyline, glittering star cast and a mega budget. Being a modern adaptation of the Ramayana, the director has meticulously chosen the characters for the film. Abhishek Bachchan, who plays Beera is likely to be a clone of Raavan, the demon king. Aishwarya Rai’s role in this action thriller is that of Ragini, which is in line with the character of Sita.

Mani Ratnam claims that unlike the epic, his film will have a new twist where the kidnapped lady ultimately develops a soft corner for her abductor. The film has been shot in some unconventional locales including the forests of Kerala and the Malshej Ghats of Maharashtra. V. Manikandan, a leading cinematographer shares the credit with Santhosh Sivan for having captured some rare terrains artistically on camera.

“Raavan’, which is also said to reprise the memories of the notorious poacher Veerappan, is replete with action sequences. Abhishek Bachchan has been the talk of the tinsel town for his series of stunts in the film. Be it watching Abhishek diving from a high mountain or Aishwarya hanging in a boat in a river in Kerala the excitement quotient in the film is expected to be high. All eyes will be on the Bachchan couple who will share the screen once again after they proved to be a winning combination in “Guru”.

Top-notch artists from the Bollywood fraternity have come together for “Raavan”. The director has roped in lyricist Gulzar along with Oscar & Grammy award winner music director A.R Rahman to etch out some exclusive compositions. Having a line of talented actors including Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Tamil super star Vikram, audience is likely to see some intense performances in the film. “Raavan” is being made in Tamil as “Raavanan” with a different cast. It is also slated to be dubbed into Telugu and other regional languages.

Reliance Big Pictures and Madras Talkies have made a whopping investment of Rs.45 crore for the film, which will hit the theaters on June 18.

Raavan is releasing on 18th June

After hosting successfully in Delhi , 2nd time in Kolkata the Official Twitter Passion and Unofficial Twitter Conference IndiaTC made huge success.

Discussing on the Topic “Can Twitter Change the way India works?” Abhijit Dasgupta, Deputy Editor (National),India Today magzine, started panel discussion citing examples of his real-life on Twitter to support his view that “India does not know how to make use of Twitter.” He said further that India is still not prepared for Twitter and indians are still considering this social networking site as a plaything and not curious about learnings from Twitter.

Subrata Sen, an eminent filmmaker in the Tollywood industry, raised two pertinent questions before the attendees - “Does Twitter work?” and “What is wrong with the way India works?” The filmmaker affirmed that Twitter made its presence felt in Indian shores only recently and this medium will hardly be of any use to change the way India works. He also said jokingly that “You tweet at work, since you don’t have much to work& you tweet so that you dont fall asleep” comment brings smiles on all #IndiaTC attendees.

It became more interesting as panelist put forward their varying opinions on the topic on “There is a CPM which is ruling West Bengal and there is a CPM which rules India-Cricket Politics,Movies.” While moderating the event, Mr Simarprit Singh, Founder of Twitsnaps invited the panelists’ take on these issues.

Arun Agarwal, CEO of ebizindia and an Internet Marketing Expert himself, affirmed that Indians should learn to use Twitter judiciously and not just indulge in sundry talks that add unnecessary pressure on the site. He asks to audience that “What you want to see on Twitter?”. He also countered Abhijit das Gupta’s view and said that today’s youth are better informed and have a clear stand on almost every issues concerning India.

Abhishek Rungta, CEO of Indus Net Technologies pointed out the fact that the viral system of Twitter keeps people charged for a certain period of time over a particular issue but they soon lose the spark. Answering to a question “Whether Twitter can help curb corruption in India?” he referred to the instances where Lalit Modi and Shashi Tharoor met with a sad plight due to their revelations on Twitter.

Aniruddha Chatterjee, a documentary filmmaker and an IT professional working with TCS, said that Twitter has not that much reach in India to make a mark. He added that it is still an unexplored medium for India and suggested that a mass change among the people, which can actually make a difference.

Where as some opinions came from attendees that we need to change ourselves to change the way India works though we could utilize twitter as a medium. The discussion among panelists and the attendees conjoined to a conclusion where people still remained divided over the Twitter as a medium to make a difference on India’s way of working.
